In
memory of "SKY" (Naskapis Kamala of DreamCatcher)
Born
in the Autumn of 1994, "Sky" did not have the easiest of starts
in life. Her original owner abused her and she came to us as a six month old
puppy with serious physical and emotional problems. She came to join our growing
pack which, at the time comprised Merlin, and Sky's brother and sister Zak and
Chena. She soon formed an unholy alliance with her sister and the two of
them ran roughshod over our lives. If there was mischief available, Sky and
Chena were in it up to their armpits!
On
one occasion, when they were still small puppies, we were convinced that they
had escaped or been stolen. We searched the whole house and garden and couldn't
find them anywhere. We searched the streets, phoned dog wardens, police, RSPCA
and Battersea - all to no avail. A sudden yelp from the sitting room brought us
running - just in time to find Sky, Chena and Zak climbing out of the sofa. They
had burrowed under the cushions and eaten their way into the interior, where,
exhausted from their destructive endeavours, they snoozed a couple of hours away
in blissful innocence of our concern.
On
another occasion, the sisters ate their way through two wooden fences and into
our Asian neighbours' garden, where they proceeded to wrap themselves up in the
beautiful silk saris which had been drying on the washing line.
Sky
was a brilliant working dog - often taking joint lead with either Merlin or her
sister, Chena. The only problem with having Sky and Chena in lead was that they
both LOVED water. On more than one occasion I was dragged into a lake during a
race, simply because they felt like a dip.
This photo shows Sky running in
lead with Merlin, with her sister Chena and brother Zak running behind.
Sky
spent the final years of her life happily living with Pauline and her family.
She died in November 2005 and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure
of her company.
